The FGBI "ARRIAH" has issued methodological guidelines for determination of residual organochlorine pesticides and toxic elements in organic fertilizers and animal by-products.
Until now, no guidelines for monitoring these parameters in Russia have been developed.
Scope of application:
Organic fertilizers
-By-products of animal origin (including treated, processed) –Manure
- Droppings
MG 09-2023 Method of measuring residual organochlorine pesticides in organic fertilizers and animal by-products using gas chromatography (Certificate of attestation No. 10-ROSS.RU.0001.310175-2023 of 06.10.2023);
MG 04-2023 Method of quantification of cadmium, lead, arsenic, mercury in organic fertilizers and animal by-products using atomic absorption spectrometry (Certificate of attestation No. 11-ROSS.RU.0001.310175-2023 of 17.10.2023).
Determination of toxic elements and pesticides in animal by-products and in organic fertilizers is one of the requirements of regulatory documents enforced in the Russian Federation.
Toxic elements such as heavy metals (lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury) can accumulate in the body of animals and be introduced into the human food chain through animal products causing various diseases. They have a negative impact on crop yields, deteriorate product quality, disrupt immune barrier systems resulting in plant infection and infestation.
Organochlorine pesticides are highly resistant and can accumulate in the food chain having a toxic effect on living organisms.
The results obtained using these guidelines allow assessing the degree of contamination of livestock by-products and organic fertilizers and taking the necessary measures for their processing or destruction.
