The FGBI “ARRIAH” researchers have completed development of methodological guidelines on the organization and operation of quarantine stations for circus and zoo mammals, as well as for birds imported into Russia from abroad.

The document is introduced for the first time and offers a unified approach in the absence of relevant regulatory acts in Russian legislation.

The guidelines detail requirements for the design, layout, and equipment of quarantine stations; organization of clean and dirty zones; animal isolation measures and prevention of reinfection; biosecurity rules; sanitary control; and treatment of transport equipment and inventory.

They also describe station operation stages, including quarantine duration, animal keeping, diagnostic examinations, preventive and curative procedures, biosecurity plan management, and evaluation of the effectiveness of applied measures.

The guidelines are aimed to align the Russian standards with international practices and lay the foundation for future veterinary rules. The document will ensure reliable protection of imported animals, station personnel, and the environment, minimizing the risk of highly dangerous infection spread.

The guidelines are intended for regional veterinary surveillance authorities, their subordinate organizations, as well as veterinary business operators.

The document was officially approved at the meeting of the FGBI “ARRIAH” Scientific Council on March 13, 2026.
