February 10, 2026 — The FGBI “ARRIAH” researchers held a meeting to discuss development of a new combined vaccine against bovine pasteurellosis and histophilosis. The vaccine development is aimed at preventing infections that cause significant economic losses due to reduced animal productivity, increased mortality, and higher treatment costs.
It was noted that preclinical trials scheduled for 2026 will assess protective efficacy and safety of the vaccine. The trials will also determine the optimal immunization dose and administration route; assess antibody titer dynamics, immunity strength and duration; and confirm absence of toxic effects and allergic reactions.
After the Rosselkhoznadzor is notified about the upcoming studies and the appropriate permission is granted, field trials will take place to assess the vaccine safety and effectiveness in naturally susceptible animals under farm conditions.
Upon completion of all the trial stages, the vaccine will be registered and recommended for mass application — a key step in improving cattle health and enhancing epizootic safety in Russia.
The vaccine production is planned for the next year.
For reference. Bovine pasteurellosis and histophilosis are acute bacterial infections primarily affecting the respiratory tract and cardiovascular system of animals. Young calves are most at risk, often suffering mass mortality. Research shows that pathological processes initiated by Pasteurella multocida and Histophilus somni cause persistent morphofunctional damage, leading to 15–20% long-term productivity losses even after clinical recovery.
