7,896 sera samples taken from the vaccinated population in the RF buffer zone and 2,205 samples from the Kyrgyz Republic were tested in the Reference laboratory for FMD diagnosis located in the FGBI ARRIAH “Federal Centre for Animal Health” subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor in July, 2014.
The number of immune animals in the tested population vaccinated against FMD was: 56.4% - in the Chelyabinsk Oblast, 63.5% - in the Omsk Oblast; 65.4% - in the Zabaykalsky Krai; 71.1%- in the Khabarovsky Krai; 72.9% - in the Jewish Autonomous Region. The lowest level of immunity (37.8%) was observed in cattle in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.
The number of immune animals in the tested populations of cattle and small ruminants in the Kyrgyz Republic was 68%.
In accordance with the OIE Terrestrial Code (Article 8.6.46, 2013) it is enough to ensure 80% of immune animals in the population to prevent an FMD outbreak.
