On February 18, 2026, researchers at the FGBI “ARRIAH” began the development of a new diagnostic tool—a real-time PCR test kit for detecting RNA of hepatitis E virus genotype 3.
The development is aimed to improve the accuracy and speed of laboratory diagnostics for hepatitis E, a zoonotic disease posing risks to both animals (primarily pigs) and humans. Genotype 3 is widely spread and can be transmitted through animal products, making timely detection of the infection critical for biosafety, veterinary control, and public health protection.
The modern PCR test kit will enhance monitoring efficiency, enable earlier virus detection, and support rapid preventive measures.
Completion and implementation of the test kit are planned by the end of 2026.
