On August 12, 2014, the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” was visited by the delegation from Uganda, which included representatives of Quality Chemicals Limited Company. The goal of the visit was discussion of cooperation matters.
Quality Chemicals Limited manufactures drugs for humans in Uganda. Currently the Company’s administration is concerned about the problem of animal health in the country. The issue of livestock and poultry morbidity and mortality is burning in Uganda. Annually the country loses huge amount of poultry, cattle, goats and sheep. Veterinarians often cannot identify the disease, which caused death.
The guests made a presentation about basic problems of the Veterinary Service of Uganda. The major issues of the African country are avian diseases and FMD. Experts of the FGBI “ARRIAH” told the delegation about the research activities of the Centre making an emphasis on the issues of virus studies, development and application of FMD vaccines and vaccines for poultry. The guests mentioned that along with the need for vaccine supplies the country has a burning need for diagnostic kits and a number of tests of pathological materials.
An important aspect of the meeting was discussion of cooperation in the field of food and feed safety and quality testing that is a pre-requisite for the national health maintenance.
Summarizing the results of the meeting the guests highly estimated the results of the FGBI “ARRIAH” activities and declared that research and manufacturing capacities of the Centre are that very complex solution for improvement of animal and poultry health in Uganda, which is looked for by the Ministry of Agriculture of the country.
Agreement on research cooperation between the parties was reached during the negotiations.
