The Conference “Methods for foot and mouth disease prevention and control in Taiwan, analysis of field cases, exchange of experience with the OIE Reference Laboratory for Foot and Mouth Disease (FGBI “ARRIAH”). Foot and mouth disease vaccine control and use of actual strains in vaccines for foot and mouth disease prevention in pigs” was held from 17 till 20 June 2014 in the People’s Republic of China (Haikou). The FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” under the jurisdiction of the Rosselkhoznadzor was represented at the event by Dmitry Lozovoy, Head of the Laboratory for Foot and Mouth Disease Prevention, and Svetlana Kremenchugskaya, Leading Researcher of the Reference Laboratory for Foot and Mouth Disease Diagnosis.

Heads of large-scale pig farms and representatives of the Taiwanese Veterinary Service participated in the Conference. Within the framework of the programme issues of foot and mouth disease prevention in pigs using vaccines with actual for Taiwan strains were dealt with.

In their presentations FGBI “ARRIAH” specialists covered Centre’s activities paying special attention to the developed and produced vaccines used for foot and mouth disease prevention, including prevention in pigs, as well they put an emphasis on methods for control of produced vaccine preparations against foot and mouth disease.

Svetlana Kremenchugskaya submitted data on topicality of using strains for vaccine production that should be employed for effective specific prevention of foot and mouth disease in the territory of Taiwan.

Presentations of the Centre’s representatives caused lively discussions on the part of Conference participants.
