During the period from 30 June till 1 July 2014 the FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” under the jurisdiction of the Rosselkhoznadzor was visited by Mr. K.J. Sumption, Secretary of the European Commission for the Control of Foot- and-Mouth Disease, and Mr. G. Grigoryan, FAO expert. The visit was aimed at discussion of issues on cooperation between the Centre and the European Commission for the Control of Foot- and- Mouth Disease (EuFMD).

During the first day of negotiations guests listened to reports of FGBI “ARRIAH” specialists in reference to scientific activities of the Centre, foot and mouth disease epidemic situation in Russia and risk of the disease spread in its territory, activities of the Reference Laboratory for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Diagnosis as well as results of phylogenetic analysis of foot-and-mouth disease virus isolates recovered in territory of the Russian Federation. The negotiations were followed by the visit to the Laboratory and Production Unit (LPU) and facilities for keeping laboratory animals. After that the Parties discussed issues on holding on the basis of the FGBI “ARRIAH” of training courses dealing with transboundary diseases. The courses would be intended for Russian-speaking specialists from West-Eurasian countries participating in the FMD Road Map under the aegis of the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and- Mouth Disease (EuFMD).

Next day the Parties discussed a Project for creation of a buffer zone against FMD in Transcaucasian and Central-Asian countries and considered issues in reference to ASF and avian influenza epidemic situations in the territory of the Russian Federation.
