In accordance with “Programme of cooperation between the Rosselkhoznadzor laboratories” in the framework of the implementation and development of project “Identification of geographical origin of livestock and poultry meat” the measurement methods “Isotopic determination of carbon and nitrogen in muscular tissues of animals and poultry using isotope ratio mass spectrometry” developed by the staff members of the Laboratory for Chemical Analysis of the Testing Centre of the FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor was approved by the Ural Research Institute for Metrology (FSUE “UNIIM”), certificate of measurement method approval No. 222.0306/01.00258/2015 dd. 07.12.2015.

The methods apply to livestock and poultry meat in order to detect the isotopic ratio of carbon (13C/12C) and nitrogen (15N/14N) by stable isotope mass-spectrometry. Three-stage procedure including lyophilization, organic solvent defatting in Soxhlet apparatus and incineration of dried defatted residue in the elemental analyzer was proposed for preparation of test samples.
