Scientists at the FGBI "ARRIAH" have developed guidelines for detecting antibodies to Aujeszky's disease virus in pigs using the neutralization test. The document was approved by the Centre's Scientific Board on October 16, 2026.
The guidelines outline laboratory procedures for detecting antibodies to the pathogen. Their implementation will help standardize diagnostic approaches and improve the efficiency of laboratory surveillance for the disease.
Moving forward, the document is intended to serve as a framework for drafting a GOST R national standard. State veterinary laboratories and other specialized institutions will also be able to use these guidelines to conduct testing and improve epidemiological monitoring programs.
For reference: Aujeszky's disease is a viral disease affecting animals, particularly pigs, and can cause severe economic losses in the swine industry. Newborn piglets are the most severely affected; depending on their age and farm conditions, the disease can result in high mortality rates. Adult animals may exhibit respiratory signs and reproductive failure.
Timely detection of antibodies to the virus is critical for assessing the epidemiological situation and taking veterinary measures to prevent the spread of the infection.
