In August 2020, in accordance with the decision of paragraph 5 of Section IV of Protocol 2 of the Standing Animal Disease Control Commission of the Government of the Russian Federation, Alexey Igolkin, Candidate of Veterinary Science, Head of the Reference Laboratory for ASF of the FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” (Vladimir) subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor became a member of the Animal Disease Control Commission of Ulyanovsk Oblast.
On September 4, 2020 a regular meeting of the Extraordinary Animal Disease Control Commission of Ulyanovsk Oblast was held under the chairmanship of Andrey Tyurin, First Deputy President of the Government of Ulyanovsk Oblast. The attending participants of the Commission comprised representatives of the regional ministries and agencies, and territorial administrations of the federal authorities, including the Rosselkhoznadzor, the EMERCOM General Administration, the Federal Penitentiary Service, and the Rospotrebnadzor.
The meeting reviewed a project concerning current measures to prevent ASF and HPAI introduction. The responsible parties - the Veterinary Agency of Ulyanovsk Oblast (N.I. Pelevina), the Rosselkhoznadzor Territorial Administration for the Chuvash Republic and Ulyanovsk Oblast (A.N. Palkin), and the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for Ulyanovsk Oblast (D.A. Khakimova) presented reports on implementation of the Action Plan for ASF Prevention in the administrative subject approved by the Decree of the Governor of Ulyanovsk Oblast for 2020.
Aleksey Igolkin reported via videoconference on the current ASF situation in Russia and abroad and gave recommendations on how to prevent the spread of the highly dangerous disease. The participants of the meeting noted a high risk of ASF introduction to the areas neighbouring Ulianovsk Oblast from Samara Oblast where more than one hundred outbreaks and infected sites have been registered this year (Note: One of the largest infection clusters in Russia).
In the course of the discussion the Commission members worked out additional measures to prevent the introduction of the ASF virus into the territory of the region. It was noted that special attention should be paid to raising awareness of ASF and HPAI dangers, measures to prevent their introduction and spread, and urgent actions that can be taken by livestock owners when the above-mentioned diseases are suspected.
