The 71st Meeting of the CIS Economic Council was held on the 9th of September, 2016.

The FGBI ARRIAH “Federal Centre for Animal Health” subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor and serving as a coordinator of the joint measures was represented by Deputy Director for Research and Development A. Metlin and expert Prof. A.Rakhmanov.

The CIS Economic Council controls implementation of decisions of the CIS Council of Heads of Government and carries out quarterly meetings. The CIS Economic Council includes representatives from all the CIS Member States.

At the last meeting the participants, inter alia, considered implementation of the CIS Joint FMD Control and Prevention Measures up to 2020, approved by the decision of the CIS Council of Heads of Government on the 30th of May, 2014. The issue was initially raised at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Council for Veterinary Cooperation on the 12th of May, 2016 and at the meeting of the Commission on Economic Issues under the CIS Economic Council on the 20th of July, 2016.

The CIS Economic Council highlighted positive role of the joint measures taken to control FMD in the CIS member states, since these measures significantly improved the situation. The issue-related information was sent to the CIS governments to ensure further implementation of the joint measures. The CIS veterinary services were requested to enhance coordination of the FMD control joint actions and to ensure exchange of information on epizootic situation in the states, to timely provide information on the taken measures to the Intergovernmental Council for Veterinary Cooperation.
