The Working Group on Agriculture was held within the 5th meeting of the Russian-Ecuadorian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation on May 14, 2018. The Rosselkhoznadzor was represented by the specialists of the Central Office and its subordinate institutions, including the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI "Federal Center for Animal Health represented by Dmitry Lozovoy.
The Ecuadorian side was headed by Director General of the Directorate for Planning and Management of the Agency for Phytosanitary and Veterinary Regulation and Control José Mauricio Velasco. The meeting was also attended by Director of the Trade Representation of the Republic of Ecuador in Russia Mr. Elias Tagle.
During the talks it was stressed that there has been a steady growth in the trade relations of the two countries recently and it is necessary to develop and strengthen the existing cooperation in the field of agriculture. For this purpose the sides agreed to speed up the process of harmonization of memoranda on cooperation in the field of veterinary and plant quarantine that will affect several areas of future cooperation in the agricultural sector: trade, scientific, technical and educational spheres, including the exchange of experience between the leading agrarian universities of the two countries. The Ecuadorian colleagues raised the issue of training for Ecuadorian students in the Russian Federation and expressed the desire to get familiarized with the Russian advanced technologies and techniques.
Director of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI "ARRIAH" Dmitry Lozovoy raised the issue of agreements reached during the previous visit to Russia regarding the registration of Russian medicinal products in Ecuador. In particular, it concerns vaccines against foot and mouth disease and poultry diseases. In this regard, the parties agreed to speed up the preparation of Memorandum on scientific and technical cooperation aimed at creating programs for the welfare of livestock with regard to highly dangerous diseases, including training of Ecuadorian specialists, carrying out monitoring studies and supplying veterinary drugs to Ecuador.
Summing up the results the sides discussed possible options for cooperation and agreed to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture, including diversification of Russian-Ecuadorian trade in agricultural products.
At the end of the meeting, the parties signed the Protocol of the Working Group on Agriculture and, thus, identified prospective topics for further cooperation in this field.
