Highly pathogenic avian influenza is a highly contagious acute highly dangerous quarantine disease which can kill up to 100% of the flock. HPAI as well as Newcastle disease has a huge economic impact on the economic potential of many countries and hinder the development of poultry industry. In spite of the fact that the main means for AI control is radical measures, vaccination of free range poultry is an active tool for the disease control. Due to great economic losses and social consequences caused by HPAI some countries started to implement specific prevention strategy in industrial poultry production instead of common radical means of disease eradication.
In order to create a stock of specific means for AI type H5 and H7 and Newcastle disease prevention, inactivated emulsion vaccines against these infections, both monovalent and associated, were developed by the FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor. The vaccines contain inactivated AI (H5N1, H7N1) and Newcastle disease (La-Sota strain) viruses, depending on the type of vaccine. The mechanism of action of the vaccines is based on the immunity against HPAI and Newcastle disease viruses developed in vaccinated birds. Test results showed that specific antibody titers reached protective value 28 days after the vaccination and, thus, birds were protected from clinical disease and death. The preparations are intended for preventive vaccination of clinically healthy birds of any age and are reserved for a large epidemic.No.
