From April 22 to May 24, 2020, specialists of the FGBI Federal Center for Animal Health subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor attended a European training course on African swine fever control held by the Regional division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia, under the auspices of the European Union.

In the course of the training, the participants improved and acquired new competencies in clinical and laboratory ASF diagnosis, ASF prevention and control, investigation and elimination of ASF outbreaks, enhancement of biosecurity at commercial pig farms and in holdings, as well as learnt more about the role of wild boars in the virus spread.

The training was delivered by leading European experts on African swine fever: Daniel Beltran-Alcrudo, FAO animal health officer; Marius Masiulis, FAO international consultant, expert on wild boars; Anya Globiga, ASF expert at the Friedrich Leffler Institute; Carmina Gallardo, Head of the ASF laboratory at the National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA-CISA); and Mark Hovari, FAO's leading expert on wild boars.

During the discussion, the participants could discuss current issues regarding ASF control and other aspects of their professional activities with experts and colleagues from other countries.

Upon the successful completion of the final certification test, the participants were awarded certificates of completion of training.
