On February 14-15, 2019 FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor hosted International Scientific and Practical Conference for poultry farm veterinarians of the Russian Federation and CIS countries “Topical Issues of Avian Infectious Disease Diagnosis and Prevention in Commercial Poultry Industry”.

The conference gathered leading veterinary specialists and representatives of Russian and foreign scientific circles. Due to a major threat of propagation of highly dangerous avian diseases fraught with economic losses, in particular highly pathogenic avian influenza, for the first time the Conference was attended by the representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) – Deputy Director of FAO/OIE Reference Laboratories for avian influenza and Newcastle disease Nicola Lewis (The Animal and Plant Health Agency, UK), acting Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation Aghasi Harutyunyan, Senior animal health and production officer Eran Raizman (Budapest, Hungary) and representatives of “VALO” (Germany) and “SEPPIC” (France).

The specialists of the FGBI “ARRIAH” shared their achievements and experience, presented the Centre’s activities aimed at protection of commercial poultry industry from highly dangerous diseases and focused on quality control of the produced biopreparations. Foreign experts focused on the epizootic situation on avian influenza and Newcastle disease, as well as on veterinary challenges posed by ongoing globalization of the world.

Round table was held at the end of the conference, summarizing the results of the conference, and standard certificates were awarded to the participants.

The held meeting was productive for all the participants. The activities of the FGBI "ARRIAH" aroused a keen interest of the participants of the conference, as well as of the press. During the press conference, the Director of the FGBI “ARRIAH” Dmitry Lozovoy and leading specialists of the Center shared their views on acute and current problems of commercial poultry industry, as well as on prevention of infectious avian diseases epizootics. The speakers paid particular attention to the technological control and the quality of manufactured preparations, declaring international competitiveness of domestic producers.
