On April 17-18, 2019 the officials of the FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor Victor Nikiforov and Anna Andreeva took part in the 43rd General Session of the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth disease (Rome, Italy).
The participants of the session comprised the representatives of veterinary services of the European Union Member States, as well as of Georgia, Israel, Turkey, Serbia, Macedonia, Palestine, Morocco, New Zealand, Mongolia, Mali, Botswana and Nigeria. The programme of the session consisted of 14 reports, including the report presented by OIE Reference Laboratory for FMD Director (Pirbright) on “Global and regional epidemiological surveillance” (D.King); “Modelling FMD spread in Europe: potential for optimizing control measures at regional and national scales” (K.Mintiens); “Early warning and better preparedness for FMD and similar TADs in the European neighbourhood: the case for an integrated approach” (F.Rosso), etc.
Specialists from Turkey (A.Bulut), Israel (T.Gosher) and Georgia (Z.Rukhadze) presented reports on the epidemiological situation in their respective countries and on FMD control measures.
The event concluded with the presentation of the EuFMD financial report, election of the Executive Committee members as well as of a new President of the Commission – Martin Blake, delegate from the Irish veterinary service.
