Global African Swine Fever Research Alliance (GARA) meeting took place on April 11-13, 2018 in Cagliari (Italy).
Director of the FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” (ARRIAH), subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor, Dmitry Lozovoy and Head of ARRIAH Reference Laboratory for ASF Alexey Igolkin took part in the event.
The participants presented the reports on the following topics:
ASF virology and pathogenesis; ASFV diagnostics, molecular epidemiology and evolution; Vaccine (progress in ASFV vaccine development); Scientific projects; Epidemiology in Africa; Epidemiology in Europe and other countries of the world.In the course of the event, the Russian specialists participated in the meeting of the scientific group involved into ASF vaccine development (within EU HORIZONT 2020 Project). During the meeting, trends and results of the work done in vaccine prototyping were discussed. The Russian specialists described the FGBI “ARRIAH” as a leading veterinary scientific and production centre in the Russian Federation, paying special attention to the achievements of the ASF Reference Laboratory.
The meeting with Director of Zooprophylaxis Institute of Sardinia (Instituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale ale della Sardegna) in Cagliari, Italy, Alberto Laddomada was also held. During the meeting, the interrelation issues and cooperation strengthening between the two scientific centres in epidemiology of ASF, bluetongue and other livestock diseases were discussed.
