On June 30, the FGBI "ARRIAH" in Vladimir was visited by a delegation from the National Directorate of Sanitation and Biosafety of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries of Mozambique.

The main purpose of the visit was to familiarize the delegation with the Russian veterinary control system, as well as with the practices of scientific and laboratory support for animal health security.

During the meeting, Ruslan Kobernik, Deputy Director of the FGBI "ARRIAH", presented the Centre's key areas of work. Among them are: development and production of a wide range of vaccines for farm animals and pets, test systems, research of pathogens of infectious diseases, including highly dangerous infections, laboratory testing of food products and feed, as well as organization of a system for advanced training of specialists from veterinary laboratories in Russia and abroad.

Special emphasis was placed on the experience in combating lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle, a transboundary viral disease endemic to a number of African countries.

Alexander Kononov, Acting Deputy Director for Production at the FGBI "ARRIAH", Doctor of Science (Veterinary Medicine), spoke about the Centre's scientific developments in the field of prevention and diagnosis of this disease. In particular, he highlighted the dry culture viral vaccine against lumpy skin disease in cattle, which provides immunity lasting up to 12 months, as well as two polyvalent vaccines that ensure reliable protection of animals against several infections.

Moreover, the Centre developed methodological guidelines for the sampling of biological material for the diagnosis of lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle. They are used in the practical work of Russian veterinarians.

Another important part of the scientific and methodological work was the development of several diagnostic test systems for detecting the genome of the lumpy skin disease virus in cattle by polymerase chain reaction.

The FGBI "ARRIAH" developments attracted the interest of foreign specialists as practical tools for improving diagnostics and ensuring animal health security.

At the end of the visit, the parties noted the high level of the research and laboratory capacity of the FGBI "ARRIAH" and expressed mutual interest in cooperation and sharing of expertise.
