On the 18 of April, 2016 a delegation from the “Federal Centre for Animal Health” subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor headed by Leading Expert in Avian Diseases Viktor Irza took part in the Russian-American workshop devoted to risk assessment of seasonal HPAI outbreaks, sharing experience in the disease control and managing the disease consequences (Moscow). The workshop was organized by the World Poultry Fund and AGRIFOOD Strategies Consulting Agency.
APHIS USDA Leading Veterinarian Dr. Fidelis Hegngi, USDA expert Jonathan Gressel, experts from Rosptitssoyuz, experts in veterinary medicine, animal handling, epidemiology, media representatives took part in the workshop.
Jonathan Gressel reported on the structure of the USDA and on the services subordinated to it, on the rapid response system used by the agencies during epizooties.
Dr. Fidelis Hegngi, APHIS USDA Leading Veterinarian, informed the audiences on NPIP plan (National Poultry Improvement Plan) and shared information about the lessons learned from eradication of AI in the USA. Dr. Victor Irza reported on the current epizootic situation on AI in the RF and on the disease control strategy. Discussion of the crucial issues revealed the necessity to exchange experience between the two countries in control of highly dangerous avian diseases, in particular, AI, that pose a significant threat to poultry industry and the whole economy.
