The employees of the Reference Laboratory for Cattle Diseases of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” developed and validated the test-kit for the identification of LSDV field isolate DNA used successfully for screening and monitoring studies.
The specificity was tested using the DNA of homologous and heterologous viruses, deposited in the FGBI “ARRIAH” collection of microorganism strains. The developed method showed the high specificity to LSDV field isolates. The sensitivity was assessed using 10-time dilution of LSDV/Dagestan/2015 (diagnostic) reference strain DNA, which made 0.21 lg/ml. The amplification effectiveness was 98.6%.
According to the OIE data 1,735 cases of the disease were notified in 17 countries in 2016 with Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait, Mozambique being lumpy skin disease endemic. It is worth mentioning that since 2015 the disease has been registered in Continental Europe (Bulgaria (217 cases), Greece (224), Macedonia (178), Serbia (225), Albania (218), Montenegro (63). Since the beginning of 2017 41 LSD cases have been registered in the RF.
The unprecedented spread of LSDV on the territory of the country requires using highly sensitive diagnostic methods enabling to confirm diagnosis in the shortest time for the purposes of disease prevention and control.
Currently the developed test kit is being tested in several relevant veterinary laboratories.
