During the working visit Juan Lubroth, FAO Chief Veterinary Officer, visited the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” on March 16-17, 2016. The visit was aimed at the discussion of introduction of the following programs developed in the FGBI “ARRIAH”:
- FMD control in the Caucasian countries
- Control and eradication of peste-des-petits ruminants in Central Asian countries.
The FGBI “ARRIAH” experts in detail reported on the Centre’s activities in particular specifying the activities of the Reference Laboratory for FMD Diagnosis, Information Analysis Centre of the Rosselkhoznadzor and Reference Laboratory for Diagnosis of Avian Viral Diseases.
The parties discussed the draft program for FMD control in the Caucasian countries as well as draft program for progressive control and eradication of pest-des-petits ruminants in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan and Republic of Tajikistan.
Special focus was given to avian influenza epidemic situation in the RF and neighboring countries, international cooperation in avian influenza control and monitoring of antibiotic resistance of animal disease agents that is one of the stages of strategy aimed at the control of the risk of antimicrobial resistance increase.
On-site visit to the Testing Centre, animal keeping facilities and laboratory facilities was performed. The FAO representative got an idea of the practical activities of the subdivisions and state of the art equipment used for the research.
In conclusion of the visit the parties summarized the results and agreed on cooperation for the disease freedom of the countries.
