In 2018 the Laboratory for Epidemiology and Monitoring of the Federal Centre for Animal Health participated in epidemiological monitoring to assess avian mycoplasmosis spread in the Russian Federation in the framework of implementation of the Government Assignment on “Laboratory diagnosis and prevention of animal diseases aimed at protection of the Russian Federation from introduction of animal diseases from foreign states”.

Diseases caused by the agents of respiratory mycoplasmosis and infectious synovitis are widely spread in the world and are included in the OIE List of the notifiable diseases. These pathogens can be transmitted with breeding material (hatching eggs and day-old chicks) when marketed and during export and import. As of November, 2018 the planned monitoring has been 100% completed. The general volume of serological tests for respiratory mycoplasmosis and infectious synovitis was 6212 tests. During serological monitoring special attention was given to hatcheries, breeding farms and poultry farms with their own parent stock. Blood serum samples were delivered from poultry farms of Amur, Belgorod, Bryansk, Moscow and Nizhniy Novgorod Oblast, Krasnodarsky Krai and Republic of Mari El.

Upon the results of laboratory tests specific antibodies to avian mycoplasmosis were detected: 81 positive samples with Mycoplasma gallisepticum (2,6%) and 611 in Mycoplasma synoviae (19,67%). Comparing with the results for 2017 the results of serological monitoring have demonstrated improvement of the epidemic situation as the number of farms infected with Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae decreased.
