On January 24, 2018 a meeting of representatives of veterinary authorities of the EAEU member states, the OIE, the Rosselkhoznadzor and specialists of RF scientific organizations was held in Moscow, within the framework of the Regional Representation of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).The meeting was a landmark event and was timed to the official opening of the office of the OIE Regional Representation in Moscow.
Deputy Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Jean-Philippe Doppe, Advisor to Director General Romano Marabelli, Minister for Technical Regulation Valery Koreshkov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Yevgeny Nepoklonov, and Advisor to the Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Nikita Lebedev attended the event.
Head of the OIE Regional Representation in Moscow Kazimiras Lukauskas addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.
In his speech Jean-Philippe Doppe noted the importance of the meeting, taking into account the positive trend of cooperation between the OIE and the EAEU, which resulted in signing a memorandum of cooperation between the two organizations for a three-year period (2018-2020) at the end of 2017.
Issues of ensuring capacity and sustainability of the EAEU Veterinary Services, disease freedom on the territory of the EAEU as well as significance and implementation of the OIE standards and principles in the field of veterinary education were touched upon during the meeting.
Special attention was given to epidemic situation of transboundary animal diseases in the EAEU countries. Dmitry Lozovoy, Head of the “Federal Centre for Animal Health” made a detail analysis of the development of the epidemic situation of such transboundary diseases as FMD, avian influenza and lumpy skin disease in the RF and in the world. In his speech he specified main areas of the Centre’s cooperation with international organizations and research centres of the world. Nikita Lebedev, Advisor to the Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, drew special attention to the significance of the electronic information systems developed by the Rosselkhoznadzor and necessity of their use in all EAEU countries. He underlined the importance of the event which contributed to consolidation of the EAUE Veterinary Services and the OIE and relevance of the Rosselkhoznadzor Research Centers’ activities (FGBI “ARRIAH” and FGBI “VGNKI”) for ensuring disease freedom and food security in the EAEU countries.
