Veterinarians of poultry farms of the RF and CIS-countries took part in research and practical conference of the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” “Current issues of infectious avian diseases diagnosis and prevention in commercial poultry production” on February 16-17, 2017. A number of issues related to disease freedom of poultry farms were discussed during the conference.
Such conference was held for the first time and it was considered to be very important due to the threat of spread of highly dangerous and economically important avian diseases (i.e. highly pathogenic avian influenza) within and outside Russia.
The conference was attended by the leading specialists and representatives of poultry farms, private farms and animal health stations for the control of animal and poultry diseases from Astrakhan, Amur, Sverdlovsk, Kirov, Belgorod, Nizhny Novgorod, Leningradskaya, Yaroslavl Oblasts, Perm Krai. In total more than 15 regions took part in the conference. The conference was attended by more than 100 people.
The specialists of the FGBI “ARRIAH” shared their achievements and experience; presented the Centre’s activities aimed at protection of commercial poultry industry from infectious diseases and focused on quality control of the produced preparations.
Chief expert of the FGBI “ARRIAH”, Doctor of Science (Veterinary Medicine) V. Irza gave detailed information on highly pathogenic avian influenza, and spoke about other highly dangerous diseases.
Head of the Laboratory for Avian Diseases Prevention, Candidate of Science (Veterinary Medicine) M. Girin spoke about vaccines for avian diseases prevention developed and produced in the FGBI “ARRIAH”.
Leading Researcher of the Laboratory for Avian Diseases Prevention of the FGBI “ARRIAH”, Candidate of Science (Veterinary Medicine) V. Melnikov focused on vaccination against Marek’s disease, spoke about the specific procedure for vaccine administration and noted the factors affecting the vaccination.
Researcher of the FGBI “ARRIAH”, Candidate of Science (Veterinary Medicine), S. Pokhvalny spoke about fowl pox prevention and control measures (vaccination and control of its efficacy).
Leading Researcher of the FGBI “ARRIAH”, Candidate of Science (Veterinary Medicine) A. Potekhin identified clinical signs of Glasser’s disease and its pathogenic factors.
Head of the Laboratory for Viral Avian Diseases, Candidate of Science (Veterinary Medicine), I. Chvala made a presentation “Diagnosis of viral avian diseases, including highly dangerous diseases (highly pathogenic avian influenza and Newcastle disease)” and focused on interpretation of the results which demonstrate immunoprophylaxis effectiveness.
Chief researcher of the Reference Laboratory for Viral Avian Diseases of the FGBI “ARRIAH”, Doctor of Science (Biology) N. Mudrak spoke about modern methods for assessing immunity against viral avian diseases.
Chief expert for food safety, Doctor of Science (Biology), Professor O. Pruntova gave detailed information about services provided by the Testing Centre of the FGBI “ARRIAH” to poultry farms and services in the sphere of quality control of poultry products.
Besides, specialists of the FGBI “ARRIAH” discussed clinical signs of adenovirus infection in poultry, ILT and mycoplasmosis epizootology, diagnosis and prevention.
Round tables were held at the end of the conference, summarizing the results of the conference and standard certificates were awarded to the participants.
The held meeting was productive for all the participants. The activities of the FGBI "ARRIAH" aroused a keen interest of the participants of the conference, as well as of the press.
