Scientific conference of the Chief Veterinary Department, Moscow Oblast, “Epizootic and epidemic measures on rabies prevention in humans and animals in Moscow Oblast” was held in Vidnoye, Leninsky Raion of Moscow Oblast, on February 25, 2016. Veterinary practitioners, scientists, and representatives of municipal authorities took part in the conference.

Mikhail Shulpin, Head of the FGBI “ARRIAH” Reference Laboratory for Rabies and BSE, made a speech on rabies eradication strategy in Moscow Oblast.

The following decisions were made on results of the conference:

1. Perform activities aimed at more extended vaccination coverage of domestic and wild animals. Vaccination coverage of susceptible animals should be at least 80%.

2. Recommend the National Hunt Control Department to intensify efforts to decrease red fox population.

3. An agreement on information exchange shall be concluded between national veterinary institutions and private veterinarians.
