The Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” (Vladimir) has been granted the RF patent No. 2575801 for the invention of “Strain O No. 2108/Zabaikalsky/2010 of Aphthae Epizootocae Type O FMD virus for the use in biopreparations for Type O FMD diagnosis”. The invention can be applied in the field of Virology and Biotechnology.
Foot-and-Mouth Disease is an acute contiguous virual disease of cloven-hoofed animals. The disease embarrasses commercial operations and business activities and leads to economic losses in milk and meat animal production.
The FMD agent demonstrates significant antigenic strain variability within a single serotype. Significant changes of antigenic properties of the natural strain interfere with the laboratory diagnosis. The situation is aggravated by asymptomatic disease forms, long virus-carrier state even in highly immune animals as well as by a number of clinically similar viral diseases. As a result there is a need for new diagnostic means involving newly detected antigenically modified strains.
The invention deals with new serotype O FMDV strain demonstrating high infective activity in its native state and maintaining its antigenic activity following inactivation thus being suitable for manufacture of sensible and highly specific diagnostic means.
