Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” (Vladimir) obtained Russian Federation Patent No. 2699671 for an invention in the field of veterinary virology and biotechnology, namely “Inactivated emulsion vaccine for early protection against type O FMD virus”.

The authors of the invention are Vyacheslav A. Starikov, Dmitry A. Lozovoy, Dmitry V. Mikhalishin, Maxim I. Doronin, Alexey V. Borisov, Alexey V. Konstantinov.

Foot-and-mouth disease is a very dangerous, highly contagious, quarantinable disease that affects more than 100 livestock and wild animal species and is characterized by variability of virus types and variants and multiple virus transmission routes. The disease is acute, has epidemic potential and leads to decreased productivity in animals.

The analysis of the OIE data and media reports demonstrates that the global FMD epidemic situation remains rather strain despite all the measures taken.

The developed vaccine contains avirulent and purified antigenic material prepared using Type O FMD virus 2344/Mongolia/2017 strain. The finished product contains highly purified immunogenic components (at least 3.0 µg/cm3). Oil adjuvant Montanide ISA-206 VG is used as a target additive (50,000-575,000 µg per 1.0 cm3 of the finished product). The developed and patented vaccine is highly potent and confers early protection against type O FMD virus. It is avirulent, safe and apyrogenic.
