The Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate FGBI “Federal Center for Animal Health” (Vladimir) received two patents of the Russian Federation:
- No. 2665849 for the invention of "Emulsion inactivated vaccine against FMD type O";
- No. 2665850 for the invention of "Emulsion inactivated vaccine against FMD type A".
The invention relates to the field of biotechnology. The invention is an emulsion inactivated vaccine against FMD type O and an emulsion inactivated vaccine against FMD type A.
According to the classification of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) foot and mouth disease belongs to the group of "transboundary infections" that are of great economic importance for trade and food security of all countries. FMD virus can easily spread and become epizootic. Vaccine used for animal immunization should be based on a virus homologous to field isolates. Vaccines should provide the development of mass immunity and prevent the spread of epizootic strains of foot and mouth disease virus.
New isolates of the FMDV virus lineages are emerging, which means that the existing vaccines against FMD virus will not induce immunity against the epizootic strain of type O or type A circulating in the countries of Central and South-East Asia.
To solve this problem, inventions have been made that included the development of emulsion inactivated FMD vaccines, providing effective protection for susceptible animals against field strains of FMD virus type O and type A, distributed in Central and South-East Asia.
