939 sera samples from farm animals were tested between the 9th and 25th of March, 2016 in the FGBI ARRIAH Reference Laboratory (the Federal Centre for Animal Health) for FMD. The tests were carried out as one of the surveillance measures taken by the Rosselkhoznadzor to ensure compliance with the “WTO SPS Agreement”. The samples were taken from animals vaccinated against FMD in the North Caucasian and in the Southern Federal District.
80% of immune animals detected in the examined population of the buffer zone regions suggest effective vaccination (OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code, 2015, Article 8.8.40).
However, on some farms population immunity was lower than 80%. Due to a low immunity level on some farms, the FGBI ARRIAH recommended to find out the reasons and carry out prophylactic vaccination and re-vaccination of adult cattle – in 6 months, and young cattle (at the age of 4-18 months – every 3 months).
