The Laboratory for Epizootology and Monitoring of the FGBI “Federal Centre for Animal Health” subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor proved its proficiency by participation in international comparison tests, particularly in the round for detection of specific antibodies to infectious bronchitis virus in chicken sera. The comparisons were provided by GD AnimalHealth (the Netherlands). 67 laboratories from 36 countries took part in the tests. The Laboratory for Epizootology and Monitoring demonstrated 100% compliance with coded samples. Comparison testing is aimed at verification of quality, reliability, accuracy and reproducibility to prove the staff proficiency and compliance with accreditation criteria. The relevant certificate was granted based on the results of the testing.
Synopsis: Infectious bronchitis is a contagious disease, caused by the virus of Coronaviridae family. The clinical disease is characterized by the following three major syndromes: respiratory, nephrosis-nephritis and reproductive. The manifestation of these syndromes is conditioned by poultry age, breed and whether they are reared for meat or eggs. The disease is widely spread globally and in Russia, and virus variability as well as numerous strain variants make the virus eradication complicated. The effective way to prevent the disease is the specific immunization using live and inactivated vaccines. Immunity strength following vaccination, as a rule, is evaluated by ELISA. The ELISA results serve as a basis for the designing of the infection control strategy, enable to determine the strength and uniformity of the population immunity and used for IB retrospective diagnostics by increase in antibody level in paired sera.
