On November 27, 2018 the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate “Federal Center for Animal Health” hosted a workshop that was held by Helicon Company - the largest supplier of laboratory equipment, plastics and reagents in the Russian Federation. The topic of the seminar was “Scientific and practical aspects of animal disease diagnostics using modern methods”. The meeting was moderated by Head of Department for Laboratory Control of Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate Institutions, Candidate of Veterinary Medicine Ilyas Adiatulin, and Director of FGBI "ARRIAH", Candidate of Veterinary Medicine Dmitry Lozovoy.

The seminar was attended by scientists from the FGBI ARRIAH, representatives of Helicon Thermo Fisher Scientific companies, as well as Head of Food Safety Department (Veterinary Research Institute, Brno, Czech Republic) Dr. Peter Kralik, and Head of the Scottish Veterinary Service, author of National Guidelines for Viral Diarrhea Control, member of the UK Cattle Expert Group George Caldow.

During the event the participants discussed the development of biotechnology. In particular, the workshop participants addressed the issues of complex diagnostics of porcine respiratory reproductive syndrome (PRRS) using sequencing, the main directions and new possibilities for diagnosing foot and mouth disease, African swine fever (ASF), lumpy skin disease (LSD), viral diarrhea, bovine tuberculosis and paratuberculosis, rabies. In addition, in their presentations, specialists reported on modern rapid methods and innovations in the field of laboratory detection of pathogenic microorganisms that cause zoonotic infections; prospects of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry for diagnosing diseases, discussed the avian influenza current epidemic situation and control measures in the territory of the Russian Federation.

At the end of the event all workshop participants took part in a roundtable discussion of the problem and then were awarded with the certificates.
